GRIDCo dumsor
The Corporate Communications Supervisor at the Ghana Grid Corporation Limited (GRIDCo has revealed some parts of Ghana can soon be experiencing laodshedding.
According to Mr Ebenezer Amankwah some parts of the country will suffering from loadshedding to enable engineers plus contractors work on some substation plants dotted across the country.
Mister Amankwah speaking an interview along with Dzifa Bampoe on the Very first Take programme on 3FM revealed GRIDCo is currently in conversation with the management of the Electrical power Company of Ghana (ECG) to release a loadshedding plan to enable the people of the impacted areas plan their life properly within the period of the particular maintenance project.
“There will be the Pokuase sub station which is being funded by MiDA that is taking some of the fill from Accra.
The load keeps growing because of the population growth plus infrastructure growth so you require a lot of substations that can take those load so that they do not congest by the overuse of the channels already in the existence.
When you attend Kumasi for instance the issue of blockage is still prevalent, there is the concern of Bui Dam as being a peaking plant which has furthermore gone down giving rise in order to low power in Kumasi. So you hear some of the people within Kumasi complain that every moment the light goes off because there is the peak demand and when top demand is high plus there is congestion because of different substation it is bound to trigger outages, ” he described.
He added “I may also highlight some of the projects we need to solve these problems. Within Kumasi there is a Kumasi-Kintampo transmitting line project which has been reserved to be completed in July.
Whenever you come to Accra the Pokuase substation is supposed to take a few of the loads that transmit in order to Accra to free up room on some of the substations to ensure that congestion will be eased.
There exists a Kasoa Bulk supply shrub that is being constructed furthermore by MiDA which is also likely to serve the same purposes
When i speak with you we have experienced several requests from a few of the contractors that are working on the particular projects who are asking for several outages to enable them speed up action on their work simply by July from the country to get their relief and for clients to be comfortable.
Some of the black outs are same day black outs in March, some of them are usually about four days in between April and May, and some of these are asking even fourteen days or three weeks black outs.
So we as transmitter will have to work with ECG concerning how we can minimise the particular impact on customers, how we may balance load distribution to ensure that people are not necessarily overly impacted. We are discussing that along with ECG currently so that anywhere there is the need to inform the particular affected areas of potential black outs we will do that with ECG taking the lead, giving all of us the areas and all also the particular hours or the duration to ensure that people are comfortable
“We will be using this week to engage all the stakeholders and get to an appreciable contract on the areas to be impacted, when they will be affected as well as the duration”
