A good Accra High Court provides ordered Achimota School in order to admit Tyrone Marhguy, the particular dreadlock-wearing Rastafarian boy in to the school, GHPage. com may report.
The Human Rights Courtroom 1 Division of the Higher Court, directed the school in order to also admit Oheneba Nkrabea, another Rastafarian student to the school.
The judgement had been delivered in court upon Monday, May 31, 2021.
Speaking after the judgment, Tyrone Marhguy said the court’s decision was part of “a great story. ”
“The first time I walked with the gate of Achimota, the very first thing I did was to check time [I arrived] due to the fact I knew one day I might be telling a story by it. I had no idea I would become telling one great tale in the courtroom about how I used to be discriminated [against] and how I am back. ”
The saga has been on-going since March 19, 2021, with the two students getting refused admission to the college due to their hairstyle which they related to their Rastafarian culture.
The particular school’s only consideration to permit the duo entry had been for them to cut their dreadlocks which they [students] did not budge although the college students were placed into the college under the Computerized School Choice and Placement System (CSSPS).
No amount of criticisms simply by Ghanaians, civil society institutions and human right active supporters and workers against Achimota School motivated it to back down the decision.
It defended the position saying, allowing deadlocked was against the school’s regulations.
